Now collecting items for Easter baskets

Our collection sites for children's Easter baskets are at the Denville library, Mountain Lakes library and the Rockaway Township library!
We will be collecting through March 16, 2012.

Items that have been requested include: hollow, chocolate bunnies (no nuts), eggs, jelly beans, play dough, crayons, coloring books, plastic eggs and celephane, stickers, bubbles, socks, hair accessories, sidewalk chalk, washable markers, matchbox cars and action figures.

Non food item collection:
Items that have been requested by the local food closets include; shampoo, paper towels, toilet paper & tissues, soap, feminine hygiene products, laundry & dish detergent, paper plates and cups.

Drop off sites, through March 31 include:
Boonton: Union Center National bank
Denville: Restyle & Renew (East Main St) Provident bank (Broadway) & Investor's bank (Route 53)
Rockaway: PNC bank (Main St)

Recycle your inkjet & toner cartridges!

As an ongoing recycling program, the club is continuing to collect used inkjet & toner cartridges, eyeglasses and cell phones.

The following locations are drop off sites:
Boonton: Union Center National Bank
Denville: PostNet & Investors bank (Route 53) Provident bank & SmartWorld Coffe (both on Broadway)
Rockaway: PNC bank & recycling center

The inkjet and toner cartridges are returned for cash back~ all proceeds are doanted to local charities.

Thanks to all who donated to our assorted Wish Tree sites! The gifts will all be donated to Denville & Rockaway social services this week. In addition, some gifts will be sent to the Crisis Center at St. Clares hospital in Boonton.

Club members will be giftwrapping for tips at Barnes & Noble on Route 10 in Morris Plains on Tuesday & Wednesday, from 5:00pm-10:00pm.
Stop by and say hello!

We will be collecting Valentine cards for the Trops, starting in January, but it is not too early to begin creating those homemade cards! We will gladly take any cards that are made and if you have children in school, please let us know and we will contact the schools to participate. Riverview & Lakeview schools, both in Denville & Lincoln school in Rockaway Borough have participated for many years.

Thanks again for all who have contributed to our many 'drop off' sites over the past year!

Thia Saturday, November 19th is our Bake Sale. We will be at the Foodtown, Route 53 in Denville from 9am-1:30pm. Stop by and say hello and pick from some great home baked cakes and breads. All proceeds donated to local charities.

Club members will be on hand at a table on Sunday selling tickets for the Flapjack Fundraiser we are sponsoring to support Hurricane Relief for Denville.

We have some new fundraising projects coming up and are collecting recipes for a cookbook to celebrate our 80th Anniversary in 2012!

We will also be volunteering on Sunday, October 16th to help Denville: Up & Running, 5K Run/Walk and Music Festival.

As part of a New Jersey State Federation of Women's Clubs, Day of Service Project, the club is also collecting a variety of items to support one of the three Veterans' Homes in NJ.
Drop off locations are at the Boonton post office, PNC bank & Ava's bakery, both in Rockaway.

We had a very busy general meeting Monday night and hope to have a few new projects and fundraisers coming soon.

National Night Out!

We had a great time at National Night Out!
50 children made handmade cards for the Troops.

This was a great project and we enjoyed helping the kids with the cards.

We also gave out 50 CFL bulbs on behalf of Project Porchlight.

Don't forget our Back to School supplies collection, running through August 24th.

The Garage Sale on Saturday, July 30th was pretty successful. Thanks to all the club women who donated items and for Maureen for hosting the event at her house. It was a hot day and there was stilll quite a bit of traffic.

Please come by and visit our table on Tuesday, August 2 at Fireman's field in Rockaway for National Night Out.We will be there from 6-9pm, giving our CFL bulbs, courtesy of Project Porchlight. In addition, we will have plenty of supplies to make personalized cards for the Troops serving overseas.

Don't forget our annual Ice Cream Social on Wednesday, August 10th. It is at a members house, 7pm ~ so please RSVP at (973) 328-0214 for directions.

Check us out volunteering at the Rockaway Rotary 5K Run! Proceeds benefitted the Interfaith Food pantry.

This Sunday, July 10th we will have a Membership table at the Denville Farmer's Market. Come by and say hello!
8:30am-1:30pm. We will also be giving out CFL light bulbs, courtesy of Project Porchlight.

The club will begin collecting back to school supplies in late July and will collect at a variety of drop off locations through August 24th,
We will also be standing outside the Shop Rite in Rockaway on Sunday, August 21 from 10-2:30pm. Help us support local school children.

For the month of August, there will be a membership display at the Rockaway Township llbrary. They are also a drop off for school supplies, so please try and stop by with some needed items. The Denville and Mountain Lakes libraries are also drop of locations.

August 10th we will be holding an Ice Cream social at a member's house- please email gfwcdenvrock@aol.com to RSVP and for directions.

June Dinner

We had a nice turn out for our June end of year dinner. The food was great,Thanks mostly to donations we received from Anthony's Resturant in Rockaway, Sergio's & the Route 53 Deli, both in Denville.

We will not officially meet again until September, but we will have a table at the Denville's Farmers Market on July 10th. We will be handing out CFL light bulbs, courtesy of Project Porchlight, so plese stop by from 8:30-1:30 and say hello.

Various Collections still running in town!

The club is collecting on an ongoing basis, eyeglasses, cell phones and inkjet/toner cartridges.
We have collection sites at Investors Savings Bank & Provident bank, both in Denville, Union Center Bank in Boonton and PNC bank in Rockaway Borough.
We donate the eyeglasses to New Eyes for the Needy and return the cell phones & cartridges for cash back.

We will be collecting Back to School supplies in August, so watch for our collection sites!

Bake Sale to Support Gilda's Club

Thanks to all the people who came by and supported our fundraiser for Gilda's Club/The Wellness Communities. (thanks also to all our bakers!)

As I mentioned earlier, Gilda's Club/The Wellness Community is our NJSFWC Special State Project and all the clubs in the state are asked to help raise funds/provide information and support to the organizaton.
The goal of the Gilda's Clubs and The Wellness Communities is to enhance the lives of those individuals and their families who are living with cancer because no one should face cancer alone.

Our Bake Sale will be held next Saturday, June 4th at the Foodtown on route 53 from 9:00am -1:30pm.
Lots of home made goodies for sale! All proceeds will benefit our NJSFWC State project Gilda's Club/The Wellness Center. Monetary donations also accepted. Sunday June 5 is National Cancer Survivors Day and since Gilda's Club supports families with cancer, we thought it was an appropriate weekend to help raise money for an organization that supports that.
We have raised funds at this event for our scholarships in the past, but we decided that with the date coinciding with National Cancer Survivor's Day, it fit Gilda's Club better!

Coffee night held Thursday, May 19th at Mara's! Those of us clubwomen who came had a fun time, eating, chatting and discussing a variety of topics - we hope you can join us next time!

Our Club Bake Sale will be held on Saturday, June 4 from 9:30am-2pm in front of the foodtown on route 53 in Denville.
Please stop by to say hello and also buy some delicious, home made breads, cookies and cupcakes! All proceeds will be donated to our scholarship program. This year the club was able to present 2, $500 scholarships, one to a graduating senior at Morris Hills & one at Morris Knolls high school.

We will also be presenting an award to a graduating eighth grader at each of the three middle schools in our service area: Valleyview, Thomas Jefferson and Copeland schools.
We will not hold another business meeting until September, so please email us to find out what we are up to and keep checking this blog for our other social events, Rockaway borough clean up and the always fun - ice cream social!

Come visit us this weekend!

Many our our club members will be volunteering on Saturday at the American Cancer Society's Relay for Life, being held at Veteran's Field in Parsippany. Come visit us, along with some members of the Parsippany Troy-Hills club at the Registration table.
We will be there from 12pm-7pm. The event is also worth a trip!

Sunday we will be having a table at the Denville Historical Museum's Craft & Flea Market on Diamond Spring Rd in Denville.
Come say hello and receive a free CFL bulb, courtesy of Project Porchlight.
The Flea Market is from 10am-4pm.

Fun at State Convention

NJSFWC State Convention was held May 2-4th at Trump Plaza Casino in Atlantic City. Although our club did not win any State Awards this year, we joined over 500 other Clubwomen representing 110 clubs from across the state for Workshops and NJSFWC Annual Business.

Three of us from the club attended, including our President! See our photo, enjoying dinner with Clubwomen from the Thursday Morning Club in Madison.

May is here already!

I hope you are finally enjoying the nice weather!
Our May general meetings are Monday, May 9th and Tuesday, May 10th. THe Monday meeting is at 7:30pm at the Denville Community Church on Diamond Spring Rd.
The Tuesday day meeting is at 1pm at the American Legion Hall, also in Denville.
Guests are always welcome.
At the day meeting we will be having a speaker from Project Porchlight at 2pm. She will explain why the CFL bulbs are important for our environment and be giving us 150 to give out at the Denville Historical Museum flea market on Sunday, May 15th.
The flea market is from 10-4pm - please stop by and say hello!

Many of the clubwomen will also be volunteering at the Relay for Life Event on Saturday, May 14th in Parsippany. We will be covering the Registration table with the Parsippany club. So if you decide to attend that event, please say hello when you are registering!

Our State Convention is Monday -Wednesday at Trump Hotel in Atlantic City. Three of us from the club are going down to join in the meetings, workshops and fun!

Easter Basket Project a Big Success!

Thanks to so many generous people, the club was able to put together 50 baskets, filled with candy, toys, socks, stickers, crayons, coloring books and chocolate.
The baskets were donated to Denville & Rockaway social services, who distributed them to families in both communities.

Our community service projects continue to be successful due to the generosity of so many and because of the support from local businesses, who have continued to act as drop off locations for our many projects.

A huge thank you to all who have continued to support our worthy causes!

We will continue to collect used eyeglasses, inkjet & toner cartridges and cell phones. May is Low Vision month and if you find you have some old eyeglasses that you still are holding on to, please feel free to donate to one of our drop off sites. Union Center National bank in boonton, PNC bank in Rockaway and Provident bank & Investor's Savings bank in Denville will accept your donations. The Hanover police station will also accept eyeglasses for the month of May.

Club members participated in Denville's PRIDE Clean Up on Saturday!

We met at McCarter Park and spent 2 hours picking up lots of trash!
What a great community service project for the club to participate in.

Don't forget that our evening meeting is Monday, April 11 at the Denville Community Church, Diamond Apring Rd. Come for coffee at 7:00pm. Meeting begins at 7:30pm. We will be putting together the Easter baskets after the business meeting.

Welcome to Spring!
Let's hope spring is really around the corner!

The club is very excited to be able to offer a new, $500 scholarship for a graduating senior at Morris Hills high school. We were able to raise enough funds this year to fund this opportunity and hope it will be a regular donation from now on.
We have offered a $500 scholarship every year since 1952 to a graduating senior from Morris Knolls HS or Morris Catholic HS and have been very proud of this long standing scholarship!
The forms, requirements and deadline information can be found at the school's Guidance offices. We have also been giving a $500 scholarship to a women graduating from the Morris County Vocational school for over 10 years. The past few years it has gone to a woman graduating from the LPN program and last year we renamed the scholarship after our beloved club member who passed away, Cookie McDonald.

Don't forget our next night meeting is Monday evening, April 11 and the Day meeting is Tuesday, April 12th.

Happy Spring!
Who would have expected all this snow on the first full day of spring!
Please come visit us on Wednesday night at Mara's Cafe in Denville. Some of us will be there by 6:30pm for dinner and the rest will arrive around 7pm.

A big thank you to Nancy, our President who drove us to NJSFWC Public Issues Day in Monroe at 8am this morning - the snow was coming down like crazy!
210 Clubwomen and guests attended the event, which honored Women who have served in the Military. 11 servicewomen, many who served in WW11 were there to be recognized for their support to the military in a variety of capacities. A recently retired Army Colonial, Anne Hamilton gave a nice speech about her 30 years in the service.

A spokeperson from the USO also told us how the USO supports the soldiers and their families through a variety of programs, both here and abroad.

Happy St. Patricks Day!

We had two great meetings this month and a great turn out at the Monday evening meeting! It was nice to see so many ladies interested in our projects and events.
All are invited to Mara's Cafe next Wednesday for a coffee social. Some of us will be there at 6:30pm for dinner and others will come around 7pm.
Come have a cup of coffee with us!

Don't forget our Easter basket collection - running through April 8th. We have already received plenty of Easter grass and plastic eggs - but can still use crayons, coloring books, washable markers, socks, hollow,chocolate bunnies and eggs and jelly beans, stickers.

We voted on our Allocations of our hard earned money and we are happy to announce that we can give a $500 scholarship to a senior graduating from Morris Hills HS this year! We have been presenting a scholarship to a student graduating from Morris Knolls or Morris Catholic every year since 1952.

We will be volunteering at PRIDE'S Rid Litter Day scheduled for Sat, April 9th. Come join us as we help clean up Denville!

We will be starting to collect Easter basket supplies through April 8th. Some of the items that we are looking for include: hollow chocolate bunnies, (no nuts) eggs, plastic eggs, Easter grass, washable markers, coloring books, stickers, socks, hair accessories, matchbox cars and jelly beans.

We also will continue to collect used inkjet/toner cartridges, eyeglasses and cell phones.

Supporting Operation Jersey Cares

The club, along with the Lakeland Hills YMCA Leaders has been supporting Operation Jersey Cares for the past 4 years. Over the past 3 years we collected specific items for the Troops stationed in Iraq & Afghanistan outside the Foodtown. In addition, for the past 10 years, we have been collecting Valentine cards for the troops and we donated over 1,600 homemade cards this year. See photo to right.
Jane, Community Service Director at the YMCA and I (next to Tom) hand delivered the cards to their warehouse in Raritan.

February General Meetings

Tuesday, February 8th at 1pm is our next Day meeting. (Legion Hall in Denville) We wll be packing cans of homemade cookies for Operation Cookie/Candy. THe cans will be brought to Cheshire Home in Florham Park, a home for disabled adults.
Operation Cookie/Candy has been an NJSFWC project for over 40 years and began when homemade cookies were sent to soldiers serving overseas during the Christmas holidays.

Our evening meeting is the following Monday, February 14th(7:15pm) and on Thursday, Feb, 17, we will be having a Membership Social at Brushes & Bisque, located at 45 Broadway, in Denville.

Remember, the eyeglass, inkjet & toner cartridges and cell phones are ongoing collections. You can drop them off at the Rockaway Borough recycling center,in Denville Provident bank on Broadway and at Investor's Savings bank,Rotue 53, PNC bank on Main St in Rockaway & Union Center National Bank on Ely Place in Boonton.

January Happenings!

Well, 2011 is here and the club is ready to move on! We will be collecting hand made Valentine Cards for the soldiers serving in Iraq & Afghanistan through January 21. They will all be brought to the Lakeland Hills YMCA for packaging by the YMCA Leaders and then Operation Jersey Cares will ship them to the soldiers in time for Valetines Day.
Please bring your completed cards to either the YMCA on Fanny Rd in Mountain Lakes or the Rockaway Township library. We would love it if girl Scout troops or students made this a project. The more cards we collect, the better! We have been sponsoring this project for 10 years!

The club, along with the YMCA & Key Club at Mountain Lakes high school is also collecting used eyeglasses. The club collects eyeglasses on an ongoing basis at a variety of drop off locations, but we will be donating all eyeglasses collected through February 6th to the Key Club for their project.

Thanks for all your support!

Happy New Year to all! On behalf of the Woman's Club, I would like to thank all the generous businesses and residents who supported our annual Wish Tree project. Over 225 gifts were collected and donated to social service agencies in Boonton, Denville & Rockaway and to the Crisis Center at St. Clare's hospital.
Also, thanks to Cycle Craft who donated $150 towards a children's bicycle and to the Morris Knolls Varsity Club, who purchased many gifts on our behalf from donations the students collected at the school.

A huge thank you also goes to eveyone who has supported all of our community service projects over 2010 and has helped many families in need.

Holiday Party a Success!

We had a great turn out at our holiday party this year. It was held at The Exchange in Rockaway. It is nice to all get together and share a social evening. Check out our photo to your right!

Our holiday Wish Tree collections were also a big success - thanks to the many generous residents who donated gifts at all our drop off locations - we really appreciate your support of our projects. The gifts went to families in Denville, Rockaway and Boonton, and also to the Crisis Center in Boonton.
We will be collecting Valentine cards for the Troops in January - watch for our drop off locations.

I hope you had the chance to stop by one of our Wish Tree sites. The gifts are due back by Dec 10, as we have to then bring them to Denville, Rockaway & Boonton social services.
We have worked closely with our local social service agencies, Denville in particular since the club's inception. The club was founded in 1932 to 'fill a need for an impartial, non political group to dispense relief to the unemployed and needy of Denville'.
The club also walked door to door to collect funds and books for the establishment of the first library in Denville.

We will not have an organized business meeting in December, but please feel free to join us again in January!

Watch for our Wish Trees!

We had two vey well attended general meetings this month! It was great to see so many ladies come out. We have two dates scheduled now for gift wrapping for tips at Barnes & Noble and our Holiday Party is set for The Exchange, on Monday, Dec. 13th.

Our Wish Tree project has been around for over 25 years and it actually was a Junior Woman's club project that we brought over. We have 7 trees scheduled to go up the week prior to Thanksgiving with ornaments that will give ideas for holiday gifts for families in Denville & Rockaway.

Please feel free to stop by one of the locations and take an ornament. In Denville, Provident bank & Bank of America,Mara's and in Rockaway, PNC & Sovereign bank, Shapes and in Boonton, Union Center bank.

November meetings next week!
You are all welcome to attend one of our monthly meetings. THe evening meeting is on Monday, November 8th at the Denville Community Church on Diamond Spring Rd. We should all be there by 7:15pm for some socializing and coffee prior to the meeting.
If you can attend the Day meeting, it is on Tuesday, November 9th at 1pm at the American Legion on Legion Place in Denville.

Now that our children's book drive is over we can concentrate on the Wish Trees for holiday gifts! We have been supporting Denville & Rockaway with gifts for those in need for over 25 years and will continue with drop off sites again, starting the week of Thanksgiving.

We have alerady signed up for two nights to do gift wrapping for tips at Barnes & Noble on route 10 in Morris Plains, one of the projects everyone enjoys!

Make A Difference Day

Make A Difference Day a huge success!

After spending all of September and part of October collecting new and like new children's books - we finally were able to sort and donate them today. With the help of the Boonton Area Girl Scouts, Lakeland Hills YMCA Leaders and the use of the Boonton Elks lodge, we organized, sorted and labeled over 6,000 books today! In total, we collected 8,500 books - a new record!

After we spent the morning organizing, 16 different schools and organizations came to pick up all the books. By 1pm we were done and every book donated.

This was a fabulous project and thanks to all the residents who donated, businesses that we used as drop off sites and the groups that help sort, label and organize.

What a team effort!

(10/13/2010) NJSFWC Membership Week is Oct. 17 to 23. Come find out what we are all about. Club members will be at the Denville Farmer's Market on Broadway Sunday from 8 a.m. to 1 p.m. with Membership information and they also will be selling some of our homemade items.

Check out the scarecrow to your right - we will have kits for sale. There are eight different scarecrows along Main St in Rockaway - see if you can locate them all.

Our children's book collection will be finished Saturday, Oct. 23. It is Make a Difference Day and we will be sorting and organizing the books with the Boonton Area Girl Scouts, the Lakeland Hills YMCA leaders and the Boonton Elks as part of a Make a Difference Day project. Come by and help at the Elks house, 125 Cornelia St., off Main Street in Boonton. We will be there from 9 a.m. to around 12:30 p.m.

The Club had a successful day selling items made by our Clubwomen at the Denville Historical Museum Flea Market.

Our scarecrow kits were for sale and our keychains made with colored beads were hot items. A new item was the lovely fleece scarves.

If you missed us today, be sure to stop by the St. Francis Festival on Sunday, Oct. 3. We will be in the barn.

(9/16/2010) We are busy!
Our table event at the Rockaway Festival last Sunday was a big success - and the rain never stopped. We gave out 100 CFL bulbs on behalf of Project Porchlight and lots of membership information.

Thanks to Nancy for hosting the General evening meeting at her house on Monday night. We have a lot going on and hope some of you may want to join us.

We will have a table at the Denville Historical Museum Flea Market on Sunday, Sept. 26, and at the St. Francis Harvest Festival on Oct. 3. We will have our Scarecrow Kits and scarves available for sale, so please stop by our booth and say hello.

The children's book collection is in full swing and if you have any books to donate, please visit one of our drop-off sites. The Rockaway Township library has been added as a site and also PNC Bank on Main Street and out by Rockaway Mall. Sovereign Bank and Shapes are the other two Rockaway sites. In Denville, use Provident Bank, Investor's Savings Bank, Foodtown and PostNet; in Boonton, the Post Office and Union Center National Bank.

(7/28/10) Stop by and visit us at our table at Rockaway Borough's National Night Out. The event will be held on Tuesday, Aug. 3, at Fireman's Field on Beach Street. We will be giving out CFL light bulbs on behalf of Project Porchlight and we also will have a craft area set up for children to make personal note cards for the soldiers.

I keep mentioning that we are collecting shirts and jeans for our Scarecrow Kits. We really need long sleeve shirts, especially women's and kids' sizes.

(7/6/10) The Foodtown on Route 53 in Denville has chosen us as the recipient of their donations for the month of July. Please try and stop by and make a donation to support our Scholarship Fund. We thank Foodtown for choosing us and supporting our mission.
I know I have mentioned that we are collecting jeans and long sleeve shirts for our scarecrows, but we are doing an "official" inventory and whatever items you can add to our collection would be appreciated.
Make sure to put Tuesday, August 3, on your calender and come visit our booth at National Night Out at Fireman's Field in Rockaway.
Our Membership table display at Investor's Savings bank will continue through July and then we will move it to the Rockaway Township library.
Look for our Ice Cream Social to be held in August. We are waiting for a date conformation, as we need to change the original date and hope you can come.

We had our first summer social Monday night! What a great turn out - so nice to see so many ladies show up to socialize! THe food was great and a big Thank You to Patti for hosting the event at her house.

We set the date of Thursday, July 8th to inventory our scarecrow items. We now have at least 3 opportunities to sell the kits in September & October. If you care to donate any jeans, long sleeve shirts or hats, we would be happy to accept them.

Please visit us at our table on August 5th at National Night Out at Fireman's fireld in Rockaway Borough. Our Ice Cream social is Thursday, August 12th.

We wil also begin collecting Back to School supplies in August. As the month approaches, we will announce the locations of the drop offs.

Summer Social

(6/05/10) We all celebrated the club year with a Dinner and Installation of New Officers on Thursday night. Highlands District Vice President Joyce Fredricks joined us and installed the new officers.
New officers include: President, Nancy Levy, 1st VP Barbara McCloskey, 2nd VP's Muriel Kowalski, Annette Martin, Maureen Curtis and Roseanne Jones, 3rd VPs Janice Blinder and Sandie Hall, Recording Secretary's Joan Chiaravolotti and Andrea Collett, Corresponding Secretary Patti Manton and Treasurer Joan Bowling.
A huge "thanks" to all the members who helped make the club year such a success! We may be a smaller group, but we have big hearts and are definitely "Dedicated to Community Service."

(5/30/2010) What a nice way to begin the summer months - beautiful weather and a cleanup on Main Street in Rockaway Borough! Six of us Clubwomen were out on Main Street today from 10 a.m. to noon with our "grabbers" and garbage bags. Thanks to all those who drove by and thanked us for doing our good deed!

Our End of Year Dinner is on Thursday, June 4, at Charlie Brown's. We also will be installing our new Executive Board. Nancy Levy is our new president. We will not have another monthly meeting until September, but we are planning two Summer Socials. Guests are welcome - so please contact us and find our what we are all about.

We are also continuing to encourage the recycling of used inkjet and toner cartridges, cell phones, eyeglasses and plastic six-ring holders. As a reminder, both Rockaway Borough and Denville recycling centers accept these items and also in Denville, Investor's Savings Bank on Route 53 and Provident bank on Broadway, and in Rockaway, PNC bank on Main Street. If you happen to be driving on the Blvd in Mountain Lakes, stop in at Union Center Bank.

(5/22/2010) Greetings! We had a very successful day at our Membership Table at the Denville Flea Market. We gave away over 60 CFL bulbs for Project Porchlight and spoke to many women regarding the Club. This was a great way to interact with the community and let them know what the club is doing. It was also a great way to promote the CFL bulbs.
Saturday night (5/23) we are also hosting a table at the Relay for Life that is going on in Parsippany at Veteran's Field. We will be selling bookmarks and keychains that the Clubwomen made, with the proceeds going to the Relay for Life.
We have a Beach Party social coming up at the end of June, so if you would like to attend, please e-mail to bmccloskey@hotmail.com.

(5/11/10) Greetings! We had our two monthly meetings this week and they were the last meetings until September. It was also Sandie's last meeting as President.
On June 3 we will have our End of Year Installation Dinner and the new Executive Board will be installed. The dinner will be at Charlie Brown's in Denville.
We have decided to cancel the Bake Sale and have a Bakeless Bake Sale instead. We already have $50 toward this fund-raiser and all donations are being accepted.
On May 17 we will have a table at the Denville Historical Museum sale from 10 a.m. to 3 p.m. We will be giving out free e bulbs for Project Porchlight and have membership information available. Come stop by and say hello.
On May 30 club members will be doing a cleanup on Main Street in Rockaway Borough as part of the Clean Communities program. The town is paying us $500 for this effort.

State Winners!

(05/06/10) Congratulations to our Club for a 1st place win in the State for our All Around Work in Conservation & Home Life!
We have worked hard all year on conservation and recycling efforts and they have all paid off. This is the 3rd year in a row we have won and it just shows our dedication to the environment.
On Arbor Day last Friday, all the 2nd graders at Lincoln School in Rockaway Borough received a tree seedling and a short program on preserving open space and recycling was presented.
Rockaway Borough has offered us, for the 2nd year in a row, a $500 grant through the Clean Communities grant program for doing a town cleanup.
Please join us Monday, May 10, at 7:15 p.m. or Tuesday, May 11, at 1 p.m. for our monthly meetings.

(4/30/10) Today is Arbor Day. We have a program scheduled today at Lincoln School in Rockaway with the 2nd graders. All students will receive a free tree seedling and packet of information regarding the importance of trees. We also have a short Powerpoint program planned.
Please note that our Atlantic City trip has been CANCELED. Unfortunately, we did not get enough tickets sold and we could not wait any longer to fill the bus. Watch for future fund-raisers and projects at this site.
Our Bake Sale is scheduled for Saturday, May 5, in front of the Foodtown on Route 53 in Denville. We generally hold two Bake Sales a year and the Clubwomen make great homemade breads, cookies and scones. Come visit us from 9 a.m. to 2 p.m.

(04/23/2010) Happy Earth Day! The Club is very active in recycling and conservation efforts. We received $500 last year for a cleanup in Rockaway Borough through a Clean Communities Grant. We actively collect and recycle used inkjet and toner cartridges, cell phones, eyeglasses and plastic six-ring holders. You may drop these items off at the Denville or Rockaway recycling centers or email us to arrange a pickup. Investors Savings Bank in Denville and Union Center Bank in Boonton will also accept the inkjet and toner cartridges. The Club receives cash back for these items.
Club members will be at the United Methodist Church on Hoagland Ave on Sunday from noon to 3 p.m. for their Earth Day Fair and we will also be distributing the CFL e bulbs on behalf of Project Porchlight.
Our non-food drive ends on April 30, but the food closets can always take your donations directly.

(April 14, 2010) Our monthly general meetings for April were held this week. We are still holding a day and evening meeting each month. In June we will hold just our End of Year dinner at Charlie Brown's on Thursday, June 3, at 6 p.m. We will also install our new Board members for 2010-2012 at that time.
We voted to change the name of our scholarship that we present to an LPN student studying at Morris County School of Technology to The Cookie McDonald Memorial Scholarship in memory of our beloved member who passed away in February.
At the Tuesday day meeting we also made 75 toiletry bags, which we will donate to Denville and Rockaway social services.
We are still collecting non-food items for the food closets through April. Union Center Bank in Boonton, Provident Bank on Broadway and PostNet, both in Denville, are collecting for us, also, PNC Bank and Sovereign Bank, both on Main Street in Rockaway.
Today was our Highlands District Spring Conference. It was held at Zeri's Inn and over 150 Clubwomen attended. Our club won 1st Place in Best Work in Conservation & Home Life Departments. We also won 1st Place for our Community Improvement Project. Great job ladies!

Food Collection

(March 24, 2010) The Club is in the process of organizing a food drive in partnership with the Lakeland Hills YMCA. Through the month of April, the club and the YMCA will have drop-off sites at variety of locations for non-food items. Consider purchasing some of these items and drop them off through the month of April. The Union Center Bank, Ely Place, off the Boulevard in Boonton, already has a drop-off box set up. The Club, along with the YMCA leaders will be standing in front of the A&P on Saturday, April 24, from 9 a.m. to 3 p.m. to collect items.
The YMCA is collecting only the week of April 18-24, but the other locations will be collecting the entire month. So far the sites include:
Parsippany Library
Elks Club in Boonton
Mountain Lakes Community Church
Post Net, A&P shopping center in Denville and Provident Bank, Broadway
PNC Bank on Main Street in Rockaway
I will post additional locations as we are notified.
Items that the food closets are looking for include paper towels, tissues and toilet paper, soap, laundry detergent, diapers and wipes, deodorant, toothpaste, feminine hygiene products.

Besides the lipstick and pet collections for the month of March, we also collect a lot of other items on an onging basis. We receive cash back for empty inkjet and toner cartridges and cell phones. Other items we collect include cake mixes, icing, candles, napkins and any other items good for a Birthday Party. These 'Birthday Bags' are donated to the Battered Women's Shelter and Social Services.

Drop-off locations for the lipsticks are in Denville: Karen's Day Spa, Investors Savings Bank on Route 53, Vibrance Day Spa at Denville Commons on Route 10; and in Rockaway: Mane Attractions on Main St.
Drop-off locations for the pet supplies are in Denville: PostNet on Route 53, Mara's on E. Main St., Provident Bank on Broadway; and in Rockaway: Sovereign Bank and PNC Bank, both on Main St. Rockaway Township Library also is collecting though March 16.

Collecting for causes

(March 10, 2010) The club is very good at collecting items for various causes and during the month of March we are collecting 'pet supplies' and 'new nail polish & lipstick'.

The pet supplies collection is in partnership with the Lakeland Hills YMCA and the nail polish & lipstick will benefit the organization 'Mothers Matter'. The entire State Federation of Women's Clubs is also collecting for Mothers Matter.

It is nice to belong to an organization that you can do projects to benefit your local community and also partner with the State Federation to make a larger impact.

Next month we are collecting non food items to benefit the Denville & Rockaway food closets. In additon, we will again be partnering with the YMCA for the collection. We will be standing outside the A & P on Route 53, Saturday, April 24th

Monthly meetings

(March 9, 2010) The club held our monthly meetings yesterday and today. We are continuing to meet both in the evening and during the day. It would be nice to attract some more women for the day meetings and we will have to put our heads together to come up with an new membership campaign. Most of the other women's clubs offer a program at their meetings and maybe we should try that in the future and advertise to the public.
